This is false or at least misleading. There is no waiver exception for someone who qualifies in every way except income. There is no exception for the above the income requirement. I just went through a year of hell thinking if I jumped through all their hoops I'd get it. No one gave me an honest answer from the beginning and now with the new administration and a governor who doesn't care about people with disabilities it is a lost cause trying to fight it. Do NOT MOVE to SC or leave if you are a single adult/senior with disabilities who makes more than that measley limit/maximum (they don't even look at the medical expenses it all goes to pay)!…

I understand your frustration, and I’m really sorry that you had to go through such a difficult experience. Medicaid waiver programs can be complex, and income limits often create significant barriers for people who truly need care. It’s incredibly frustrating when you’re led to believe that help is available, only to find out later that the system doesn’t accommodate your situation.

You’re right that income limits can be strict, and South Carolina doesn’t offer a simple way to qualify if you exceed those limits—even if your medical expenses take up most of your income. The lack of transparency in the process only makes things worse, leaving people to navigate a system that isn’t always upfront about its limitations.
